Carambola provides lunch every day to children with allergies.
We understand how important it is for parents to have access to accurate and detailed ingredients for their child who has an allergy. We also understand that it is important for parents to make choices around their child's food based on their individual child's needs. In order to facilitate this, we provide full allergen information on our website, on the ordering platform and also on the label of each food item.
You can find our ingredients and allergens information by clicking here.
Allergen Identification in the online portal
When you are ordering online, you will see numbers beside each food item. These numbers correlate to an allergen - a method you will frequently see in restaurants and take-aways all across Ireland. You can use these numbers to identify what allergens are in each food item.
"Trace of" allergens
Our suppliers provide us with the full ingredients and the allergens used within those ingredients. They also provide us with "may contain traces of" information - you will frequently see this on food packaging in the supermarket. We include "trace of" ingredients in the details on our website.
Nut Allergies
Carambola does not have any food item that contains nuts as a primary ingredient. There are, however, some items that carry a "may contain traces of nuts" warning from our supplier. We have identified these items in our Ingredients and Allergens page.
Some schools choose to operate a "nut free school" policy, where any item that carries the "may contain traces of nuts" label is removed entirely from the school menu. In those cases, the menu will appear restricted for all students in that school.
